DESCRIPTION
Cat Area Assistant 14 Assist kennel staff in cleaning, feeding and watering cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.
Dog Groomer 12 Bathe and/or groom animals to help them find homes and make them feel better!
Dog Kennel Assistant 14  Spot-clean kennels, provide fresh food and water, distribute clean bedding, and socialize and exercise the animals. Provide behavior information about animals to staff.
Dog Walker 12 Walk shelter dogs in the Humane Society's outdoor Dog Park, helping socialize and exercise them. Can incorporate basic obedience training with the walking. Volunteers also provide important behavior information about the dog that can be passed on to potential adopters.
Evaluation Center Assistant 16 Help our veterinary technicians examine and take pictures of incoming animals. Clean cages, feed and water animals, and kennel animals.
Foster Parent 21 Please visit the Foster Care page to learn about this important program! We save hundreds of kittens and puppies through our volunteer Foster Care program each year.
Small Animal Room Assistant 12 Help clean cages, provide fresh food and water, and socialize with the rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, mice, hamsters, birds, etc. Help visitors learn about specific types of animals using the educational materials provided.
Twice-Loved Canines 14 Well-behaved dogs are more likely to be adopted than rowdy, ill-mannered ones. Volunteers work with selected dogs to teach them basic manners, or to help shy dogs past their timidity. 
Community Events Assistant 12 Help the Humane Society's mobile adoption and education program! Using vehicles like "The Critter Cruiser" and "The Petmobile", we attend numerous events in the community. Depending on the shift, volunteers help select and load animals, walk them at the event, assist with adoptions and education, and unload and re-kennel animals back at the shelter.
Humane Education Assistant 17 Love kids and animals? Our Education program offers a variety of classroom presentations, shelter tours and special activities teaching kindness to animals and responsible pet care. Volunteers assist with all aspects of the program.
PetMobiler 17 Take shelter animals to visit people in hospitals, assisted living and long-term care facilities, and schools for mentally and physically challenged children. This type of pet visitation therapy is widely acclaimed and very rewarding to all involved.
Adoption Facilitator 14 Help animals find homes by taking a selected dog, cat or other animal to a Get-Acquainted Room to meets its potential adopter(s). The Adoption Facilitator supervises the introduction between pet and adopter, and helps the adopter determine if the animal will fit into their home and lifestyle. They also stress the importance of a lifelong commitment to the animal, as well as the shelter´s mandatory spaying and neutering policy.
Adoption Follow-Up Caller 17 Call recent adopters to see how the pet is assimilating into its new family. Answer any questions the family might have, or put the adopter in touch with an appropriate staff person for help. This contact can be critical to an adoption's success.
Information Host 14 Greet people and answer questions. Work closely with the Customer Service staff and direct our customers to the area they are seeking or to the appropriate staff person. Information Hosts play a critical customer service role; they are our customers' first point of contact with the Humane Society.
Showcasing Dogs 14 Promote special dogs that have been at the shelter for a while that would make good pets. Gather as much information as possible about the dog, and walk it through the lobby, public hallways and outside entrances, stopping to let people pet it, and answering questions from potential adopters.
Administrative Assistant 12 Assist with tasks like data entry, preparing mailings, making phone calls and assisting staff with various projects.
Call Taker 17 Answer phone calls to our Call Center. Answer callers' questions or transfer them to the appropriate staff person.
Cat Kennel Newspaper Sorter None Great youth group activity! Working at home or at the shelter, sort newspapers which are used to line cat kennels.
Media and Communications Assistant 16 Help staff feature shelter animals in weekly newspaper, radio, TV and online promotions. Help select animals, take pictures and/or create write-ups of the animals for these features.
Transport Specialist 18 Transport dogs and cats to and from professional groomers; transport animals of all types to and from other shelters; transport in-kind donations of supplies; and/or transport aluminum cans to a recycling facility to help our Animal Medical Fund. Use shelter vehicles or your own transportation.
Special Events Assistant 12 Choose from numerous jobs at diverse special events like the FUR~R~R Ball, Adopt-A-Thon, Homecoming, and Santa Paws. Help in planning the event or simply join us to help at the event itself. Assist with smaller-scale special events as well, like gift-wrapping at Borders to raise funds during the holiday season.
