VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are critical to the success of Pueblo Animal Services. As a private, non-profit organization, we rely heavily on the assistance of our caring, dedicated and hard-working volunteers. Pueblo Animal Services only asks a six-month commitment from its volunteers, but many of our several hundred volunteers have been a part of Pueblo Animal Services for years. Our volunteers enjoy helping animals, people and their community.

There are numerous volunteer opportunities at our shelter. Volunteers help the homeless animals by walking them, teaching them basic "manners", bathing and grooming them, and cuddling them. They help pets find good homes, foster pets that need extra time or help, and assist people in finding their lost pets. They educate both children and adults about responsible pet ownership and kindness to animals. Foster Pups

Volunteers also take shelter animals to visit elderly or sick people in care facilities, and to schools for mentally, emotionally or physically challenged children. Volunteers also assist at many special Pueblo Animal Services community and fund-raising events. We also have a volunteer Board of Directors, which sets shelter policy.

In an average year, our volunteers contribute more than 38,000 hours in support of the approximate 23,000 lost and unwanted animals that come through the shelter doors. Please consider joining our team of friendly volunteers. You, too, will enjoy the experience! Visit the How to Volunteer page to learn more.

Volunteers work side-by-side with shelter staff, and provide needed manpower for those programs that improve the quality of life for shelter animals.  They allow us to achieve excellence in all that we do for the animals, making the community a better place for both people and pets. Our volunteers’ commitment to us, in turn, enables us to fulfill the commitment we have made to the animals and people that we serve.
