Commitment
Pueblo Animal Services asks a minimum six-month commitment from our
volunteers, because specialized training is involved in working with
shelter animals. We ask that you volunteer at least two hours a week, or
eight hours per month.

Age Requirements
The minimum age for a few jobs is 12 years old. More jobs are available
to 14-18 year-olds. All volunteers between the ages of 12 and 17 must be
accompanied at all times by an adult of his or her own choosing. The
minimum age for each job is listed with the job description on the
Volunteer Opportunities page.
Becoming A Volunteer
There are several steps to take in becoming a volunteer. First, attend a
Volunteer Information Session, which lasts about an hour and a half.

At the Volunteer Information Session, you'll receive a brief historical
look at the Society; an overview of our services, structure, mission,
funding process and philosophies; and a look at current volunteer
opportunities.
The second step in becoming a volunteer is to complete a Volunteer
Information form and interview with the Director of Volunteer Programs to
discuss your goals and determine the best volunteer assignment for you.
Third, attend an Volunteer Orientation and Training Session from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m. on a Saturday. This orientation will prepare you for your job as a
volunteer and give you some basic training. You will receive further,
job-specific training after completing the orientation.
Please note that you MUST reserve your seat at the Information Session
and Orientation by emailing our Director of Volunteer Programs,
Janet Neales,
or by calling (719) 544-3005, ext. 105. The Volunteer Information
Sessions fill up quickly, and you may be put on a wait list for the
current session or scheduled for the next available Information Session.
